Wild Dog 4×4 Snatch Strap
The Wild Dog 4×4 Snatch Strap uses kinetic energy to help recover a bogged or stuck vehicle without a winch. During recovery, the strap stretches under load, stores energy from the recovery vehicle and transfers it smoothly to the stuck vehicle.
This controlled stretch reduces the sudden jerking associated with static tow straps, placing less shock on the vehicles, recovery points and occupants.

Kinetic Recovery
During a vehicle recovery, the snatch strap stretches and absorbs energy generated by the moving recovery vehicle. This stored energy is then transferred to the stuck vehicle, helping to free it more effectively than a standard static tow strap.
Shock-Absorbing Stretch
The strap can stretch by up to 25% under maximum load. This elasticity helps reduce harsh jerking and shock loading during recovery, improving comfort and reducing stress on both vehicles.
Even Pull
When correctly rigged using rated recovery points and suitable equipment, the pulling force can be distributed more evenly. This reduces stress on individual recovery points and helps minimise the risk of damaging or twisting the vehicle’s chassis.
Important Safety Warning
Kinetic vehicle recovery can be extremely dangerous when performed incorrectly. The forces created during a recovery may exceed the rated limits of recovery points, shackles, connectors or the strap itself.
The elasticity of the strap can create a powerful rebound or slingshot effect if any component fails, potentially causing serious injury, death or property damage. Always use certified, correctly rated recovery equipment and follow proper recovery procedures.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage or injury resulting from incorrect use, unsuitable equipment or failure to follow the safety instructions.
Basic Principles for Safe Use
- Avoid placing yourself or your vehicle in unnecessary danger.
- The recovery vehicle should be of a similar weight to the stuck vehicle.
- Only attach the strap to manufacturer-approved, chassis-mounted recovery points.
- Never attach the strap to a tow ball or unsuitable tie-down point.
- Use only correctly rated shackles or connectors.
- Never use the strap with a winch or as a winch-rope extension.
- Never tie knots in the strap.
- Never use a damaged, excessively worn or illegibly labelled strap.
- Add 25% of the strap’s length in the direction of the pull and mark this point on the ground. The recovery vehicle should never exceed this distance during the pull.
- Keep all bystanders well outside the recovery area and away from the path of either vehicle.
- Keep the strap clean and free from sand, dirt and grit.
Care and Maintenance
Inspect the strap carefully before and after every use. Check for:
- Cuts, tears or nicks
- Fraying or partially unwound sections
- Abrasion or excessive wear
- Burned or melted areas
- Damaged stitching
- A missing or illegible safety label
Do not use the strap if any damage is present.
After use, rinse the strap thoroughly with clean, fresh water and allow it to air-dry completely away from direct sunlight. Store it inside a recovery bag or suitable container to protect it from sunlight, moisture, dirt and other environmental conditions.
Safety Recommendations
- The strap’s minimum breaking strength should generally be between two and three times the gross vehicle mass (GVM) of the lighter vehicle, subject to the strap manufacturer’s rating and applicable safety standard.
- Ensure the strap is suitable for the GVM of the lighter vehicle involved in the recovery.
- The strap must not be used for lifting or conventional towing.
- Do not use the strap when it is damaged or unfit for service.
- Water saturation may reduce the strap’s strength and stretching performance.
- Always place a recovery damper, heavy bag or recovery blanket over the strap during use to help reduce recoil if a component fails.
- Before beginning the recovery, passengers should exit the vehicles and move to a safe position well away from the recovery path.
- Anyone intending to perform a vehicle recovery should complete recognised 4×4 recovery training or obtain instruction from an experienced, qualified recovery specialist.
